I found a useful website in the Elementary corner of the Chapter 3 Integration Corner called Discovery Education http://school.discoveryeducation.com/. Discovery Education has many excellent features for teachers, students, and parents. It includes lesson plans, a puzzle maker, homework help, and worksheets.
The lesson plans are divided into three sections for grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. They are listed by subject and are easy to follow by giving step by step instructions on how to teach the lesson. Discovery Education also has a puzzle maker web page where you can create many different types of puzzles. I also found an emergency preparedness section that gives you a checklist and information on different types of natural disasters. There is also a homework help section for students that helps them with a specific topic through the use of videos. There is also a worksheet section where you can have your students complete worksheets on various topics. I also discovered a Think Green section which assists in teaching students about conservation. There are also different technology tools on the website including a virtual frog dissection. This website is beneficial to anyone who is planning on teaching K-12. It is easy to navigate and provides detailed explanations of the lesson plans. I found the website to be useful in teaching students through the use of technology.
That's a great site- I like the interactive puzzle part the best. I could see myself as a child really enjoying that, and learning a lot. The homework help section is also great- kids need to learn how to be independent so they can rely on themselves to learn as well.
ReplyDeleteCarla, I also love this site. I already made several puzzles for the third grade class I'm currently in. They had their spelling and vocabulary words in them. The students love them and it actually helps them learn to spell better. It is set up for everyone. The homework help is a great tool for kids who don't have anyone who can answer their questions when the teacher isn't available.
ReplyDeletePhyllis, that's a great idea to use the puzzles for spelling and vocabulary words. I can see how the word search would definately help a child with spelling. I'll have to keep that in mind. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis website is great. I like how it is available for all grades. The website provides a lot of great information. I agree with phyllis that is a great idea for teaching kids their vocabulary. Thanks for sharing with everyone! I think to puzzle maker is my favorite part. The homework helper would benefit many students with their work when no one else is available to help.
ReplyDeleteoh that sounds like a great website! I think the students would enjoy this type of webpage!
ReplyDeleteI found that the discovery education website was a great website to use if I were a parent visiting it to find work for my child. The vocabulary section would help the student recall the words easier. It has a section for making puzzles and for homework help. I believe the student, teacher, and the parents would all be happy using this site.
ReplyDeleteThis website does offer many different activities and things to incorporate into the classroom. I especially liked the homework help and the worksheet section on this website. These sections could be very beneficial to teachers.
