Blogs can be beneficial when working in education in order to communicate with other teachers, parents, and students. Teachers can brainstorm about lesson plans and can reply to each other on their own time instead of finding an available time that works for everyone to meet in person. Teachers can also post information for parents to read on the blog. This may include information regarding field trips, daily class assignments, supplies needed for class, and school functions. I think that parents would like to have more communication with their children’s teachers. If a child comes home from school and tells his or her parents that they don’t have any homework, the parent can go to the blog and check for themselves. We all know that kids are not always completely honest. The parents and students can respond to the blog with questions about assignments.
For an assignment, a teacher can put a blog on the internet and require all of her students to comment on it. Students are more likely to openly share their views over the internet than in person. They may feel less threatened when their classmates aren’t staring at them. Blogging gives students more time to put their thoughts together, instead of being expected to come up with an answer when called upon in class. My biggest fear in school was being called on in class when I did not know the answer. When responding to the blog, the students have the time to do research and put together an answer without feeling pressured to come up with an answer on the spot.
Hi Carla, I think one of the important factors about blogging is you can do it at any time. It's at your convenience. Which is great for me. You are absolutely correct about all the information that the teacher can put up on a blog that will make it easier for parents and studentsI. I also have the fear of being called on and not knowing the answer. I'm starting to enjoy blogging. This is my first time ever blogging before so I'm still trying to figure things out.
ReplyDeleteCarla, I agree that it is great for those who are afraid of being put on the spot for an answer and not having one. It also lets them respond without feeling like the entire class is staring at them. I also like the convenience of being able to do it on my time and not someone else's timetable.
ReplyDeleteYes, blogging is a great way for students to get their thoughts together before writing them down. Even if you make a mistake, it can be easily fixed with the backspace button. I was also in fear of being called on when I didn't know the answer or to read aloud. I also think blogging could be great for teachers to communicate with other teachers.
ReplyDeleteCarla,
ReplyDeleteI agree that posting an assignment online for discussion will allow those who are shy, less confident, and/or need more time to contemplate on an answer an opportunity to excel in academic assignments/conversations as well.
As parent of three school aged children, communication is very important to me. I would love the idea of being involved in my child’s everyday curriculum. Their teacher using a blog will give me the convenience to do so. It will also allow me check in on their progress and assist them in challenging areas when necessary.
The versatility of blogs is amazing. Educators can use them to inform parents, post homework assignments for students, and to communicate with other educators. Blogging opens up a whole new world of communication.
