Discovering Websites

There are many ways that teachers can integrate technology in the classroom. In the website for Under5s (www.underfives.co.uk) they have numerous activities that you can print out for learning the alphabet, counting, matching, shapes, and more. They also have a wide variety of pictures that can be printed and colored. They have holiday activities listed as well as rhymes and songs for children under 5. I like the variety of pictures that can be printed and either colored or painted by the children.

I also discovered a link for www.ixl.com which supplies quizzes on the website for Pre-K through eighth grade. In the kindergarten section they have quizzes for telling time, addition and subtraction with pictures, and money, just to name a few. This website would be a useful way to use technology in the classroom for anyone interested in teaching Pre-K through eighth grade. Unfortunately, this website requires a membership that costs $199 per year. They allow you to get through one quiz before your free time expires.

I also came across a free website called Teaching with the Web (http://edtech.Kennesaw.edu/web/teaching.htm). This website has internet activities for grades K-12. It is an interactive website that has online activities including games, quizzes, and lessons. It also provides you with ideas for offline activities. I think students would enjoy this website the most, simply because the pictures in the games and quizzes come to life. It would help motivate the students to learn a specific lesson that may be boring otherwise. This website will be useful for anyone who wants to integrate computer activities into the classroom.

  1. Wow! Those are definately great resources! I have heard of some of them and they really are wonderful. I encourage any teacher to look at what is already out there on the internet because you never know what great things you will find. I do not think there is a need to reinvent the wheel when there are multitudes of resources available right in front of you!

  3. I think it’s great that there are these kinds of websites out there to aid teachers in teaching with technology. This way the kids get the best instruction they can possibly receive. The rhymes and songs for children on the first website are my favorite part of that find, because I think that will stick the best with kids. I also really like that last one though, because the students will enjoy the games so much they won’t feel like it’s school!

  4. We are getting ixl.com at the school I work at. All the teachers are very excited about this program. Kennesaw.edu has good sites on it too. I went to several of them and they all offer different versions for different grade levels.

  5. It’s a bummer that you have to pay for that quiz generator, but it seems like a great tool. The last website you mentioned sounded really engaging. It sounded like there was something for everyone on it. I like that it also included ideas for offline activities. There are other ways of incorporating technology into the classroom without the internet. The vast amount of computer programs, such as iMovie for example, allows educators to create technology-oriented lessons without the internet.
